Fin (by Blue Lobster) Seafood Cafe @ Marina Square, Singapore

Rating: ★★★½☆

We had gone to Marina Square when the renovation was just completed and we noticed this little western restaurant called FIN Seafood Café. We had wanted to try it out but it was too crowded then and we had no time to wait, so we moved on.

At a much later date, we were at Marina Square again and since it was early on a weekday, the restaurant was still empty.

There were only 2 of us so we only ordered a Norwegian shrimp salad with walnuts & sultanas ($7.95), a seafood baked rice ($9.95) and a seafood basket ($14.95).

The salad is a bit pricey given that it is not very substantial, both in size of the salad and shrimps and also in the ingredients. However, the taste is pretty good. The salad sauce is a sweet and sour kalamansi vinaigrette which gives the salad a refreshing taste.

But we absolutely loved the baked rice and the seafood basket. I’m a fan of baked rice so I usually order baked rice if the menu has it, which is not often. Imagine my delight when the dish actually taste really good. It came smoldered in cheese (another one of my favorites) and with mussels and shrimps. Even Mic, who does not usually fancy baked rice, agreed that it is really tasty. Definitely something that I will order again when I next visit the café.

The seafood basket comes with fried scrimps, fish in batter, calamari, fries and fried scallops. The portion is meant for 1 person. The food is well fried and not greasy. Mic commented that the fish is of good quality.

Not sure how the other dishes on the menu are. Perhaps readers / bloggers who have tried the café can drop some comments.

I’ve been eating there since I first found it a few years ago. It underwent a few minor changes, but the food still maintains it’s pretty good standards.

Remember the menu is an Orange rectangular 2 fold and has a good offering of various Seafood goodies.

One interesting thing I’ve tried would be the Squid ink Linguine which looked as interesting as it tasted. The pasta really came out kinda inky…
This was the first place I fell in love with oysters really. They have this weekday deal for $1 oysters. Fresh ones … My first taste was love. Really dig their seafood basket as well. Very affordable for an assortment of seafood. My only qualm was that they reduced the quantity. It used to be more. I also preferred their offering of Flavoured sodas when it was served in the large soda glass rather than the current one they are serving it in now.

The only spoiler to their offering is the add-on salad which is a miserable pose of rucola and a few pieces of watery tomatoes with a snitch of dressing (the oiled vinagrette type).

Yet, it’s still worth the try for the rest of the food.

    =D
